It’s the final SLS round of the season and the elite competitors in each class will be going all-out for SLS Championship glory. In between the SLS action, there will be a whole host of additional features at this event. See the features tab for further info – but here’s a short bulleted list of what’s on:-
What is it?– Super Lap Scotland is not racing, it is however a very intense time-trial challenge event, where competitors compete throughout the day to post the fastest overall time in each of the six classes. All classes are based on the power-to-weight ratio of each car and driver; which allows even the most modest of road cars the opportunity to compete against the super-tuned monsters out on track; with points awarded for qualifying positions and overall finishing positions in each class. Meaning that a class E competitor (least powerful) could easily take the overall Championship title from a Pro class competitor (most powerful) by scoring more points throughout the season, giving us an overall "King of Knockhill".
What will l see? – You’ll see highly-tuned machines (Pro class) tackle the twists and dips of the two Knockhill track configurations at blisteringly fast speeds, with each competitor looking to string together that ‘PERFECT’ lap and top the timesheets against all the competition. You’ll see a plethora of vehicles, all shapes and sizes, and you’ll see some mighty impressive engineering under the bonnet of popular marques like Subaru, Mitsubishi, Caterham, Vauxhall, Ford and many more.
Championship Rounds- This year’s SLS Championship will take place over six rounds, with all taking place at Knockhill; utilising both the International and Reverse tracks. At each event, we’ll also have additional features such as Hot Hatch Sessions, Show Cars and Drifting; please see each individual round for full details on what’s featuring at that event.
Who is it for? – The SLS Championship is for everyone - from individual racers/trackday enthusiasts looking for additional seat time, to men and women on the street looking to take the step on track, or, for those looking to make their first foray into timed competition run under MSA rules. Our six class structure features an array of vehicles from 1000bhp brutes down to standard road cars, driven to and from the circuit. Basically, if you own a car and want to compete on track, we’ll have a class that you can enter.
New for 2015 - A separate award for road-going cars competing in standard trim, taxed, MOT’d and driven to the venue. Tuning companies, car clubs or groups of drivers may also compete for the Team Trophy, consisting of teams of between 2 & 4 drivers.
Rules and Permits – The Super Lap Scotland Championship is officially recognised by the MSA and runs to Super Sprint Championship guidelines.
Sponsors - Now in its third year, the Super Lap Scotland Championship is brought to you in association with the Knockhill Motor Sports Club and Track Scotland, with title sponsorship coming from RA Motorsport Developments – the Perth based Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi Evo Performance Specialists. SLS also receives valuable support from Turbo Smart, AET Turbos, Samsonas, Disc Brakes Australia and Whiteline. Our sponsors are also a big part of the SLS scene, and regularly attend, compete and showcase their products at events. Therefore, if you are thinking of upgrading your turbo, suspension or brakes this year; make sure you come along to an SLS event and get some expert advice, tips and equipment from our SLS series sponsors.
This event will also see a special Paul Walker Tribute in memory of the 2Fast 2Furious star. Alongside a wealth of show cars, including the Green Eclipse show car - a replica from the movie. There will also be a 'Moment of Noise' for the cult star; in addition funds raised on the day will be presented to Paul's charity - Reach Out Worldwide. As with most car shows, there will also be the customary show 'n' shine competitions; with trophies presented to the top car in each section.
At our Events we regularly host Drifting competitions around the Knockhill Hairpin for spectators and drivers alike. This time however, there will be a twist, as the leading drifters around the Hairpin will also get the opportunity to drift the 'Hill', against professional competition. For a £10 entry, competitors are invited to enter our Hairpin Drifting competition, and should you prove yourself to be a capable drifter, under the watchful eye of our judges; you can then progress onto the 'Hill'...
Back for another blast on the Knockhill tarmac is world-renowned stunt rider Kevin Carmichael. The Scottish star travels to shows all over the globe, taking his unique brand of motorcycle and 4-wheeled stunt riding/driving to new audiences. Make no mistake, Kevin is a master aboard an array of Triumph motorcycles including the Street Triple, Rocket3 and Free Spirits. Kevin will perform three times throughout the day - ensuring you have ample opportunity to catch his show.
Some of Scotland's fastest, tuned and customised, cars have been competing throughout 2015 - all with the aim of becoming the fastest driver around the Knockhill track, and becoming the 'King of Knockhill'. This event will see the 2015 SLS lap time challenge event reach a dramatic climax as 6 classes take to the tarmac to compete for Championship glory. Just one lap stands between the leading competitors in each class, and 2015 Championship titles. The action will be fast, dramatic and fraught with tension...
SLS is simply – man and machine against the track and the clock, with competitors ultimately aiming for the PERFECT lap. Competitors start the day participating in a number of practice sessions, to perfect racing lines and car set-ups. Next, it’s onto the first points scoring activity of the weekend, with qualifying.
Qualifying – consists of two runs of 2 x scoring laps with competitors aiming to top the timesheets with their fastest lap, counting as their outright best time. From there, the fastest drivers in each class then progress onto the single-lap final shoot-out.
Final - this is when the pressure really intensifies. The slate is wiped clean and all the day’s work leading up to the final counts for nothing at this stage. Competitors get one lap, that’s right, a solitary lap to post their quickest time - which ultimately defines the winners from the losers. This really is, for want of a better phrase, win it or bin it!
Hot Hatch Track Sessions- On the day we will also be running a number of Hot Hatch Trackday sessions. These sessions will give YOU the chance to get on the Knockhill tarmac behind the wheel of your OWN car. If you've never done a trackday before, worry not; we'll give you a full safety briefing before venturing out on track. This ensures you are perfectly equipped to tackle the twists and dips of Knockhill, normally reserved for some of Scotland's and the UK's top racing championships.
Hot on the heels of the McRae Rally Challenge, Knockhill will host another time-trial type event this weekend – 23/24 May – as the Super Lap Scotland Championship makes its way back for rounds 2 and 3 of the 2015 season.
A record entry rolled into Knockhill for the opening round of the Super Lap Scotland Championship in association with RA Motorsport Developments today, Sunday 19th April. The long awaited season launch culminated in a strong entry from a wide spectrum of vehicles across the five Championship classes (A & B combined). Topping the bill, was the return of Andy Forrest’s1000bhp Subaru Impreza Type RA – a stunningly quick car that has to be seen-to-be-believed.
Super Lap Scotland in association with RA Motorsport Developments latest event, saw Charlie Shaw maintain his relentless pursuit of the 2014 SLS title as he claimed Pro Class qualifying and final victory at Knockhill today. That maximum points haul will see the rapid Ford Focus racer maintain his perfect record for the season and will see him maintain his position at the top of the SLS 'King of the Hill' standings.
The SDB Motorsport MSA British Sprint Championship rolled into Knockhill this weekend for the Championship's 10th and 11th outing of the year and it was Colin Calder, the 2013 defending Champion who conquered the dubious Knockhill weather conditions on the opening day (Saturday) to take victory. The Caithness racer, piloted his Gould GR55 single seater racer to a 0.64second win over his daughter, Heather Calder.
Three members of the Calder family looking for British Sprint victory at this weekend's MSA British Sprint Championship and Super Lap Scotland event. Dad, Colin, will be hoping to fend off his two hard-charging daughters, Heather and Louise Calder. Colin, has the upper hand this season; he heads to Knockhill as the current Championship leader, whilst daughter Heather is close behind...
This weekend at Knockhill promises to be an extremely FAST one, as the Super Lap Scotland Championship in association with RA Motorsport Developments and British Sprint Championship competitors embark on two-days of flat out racing, against the clock.
